Cataract Surgery
Cataract:
A cataract is a clouding of the normally clear lens of the eye. For people who have cataracts, seeing through cloudy lenses is a bit like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window.
What Causes Cataract?
Aging is the main factor of developing cataract. Cataract develops when excessive protein buildup in the natural lens than makes it cloudy. It obstructs the path of the light from passing clearly through the lens, causing some loss of vision.

FAQs (Cataract surgery)
Q1. What is the best time to get cataract surgery?
A1. Cataract surgery in adults can be performed whenever vision is blurred despite use of glasses or there are symptoms like glare in bright light. With the current advanced technology cataract surgery is safer and followed by quick recovery. It is advisable to not wait till cataract matures (‘pukka motiya’) as very hard cataract may be difficult to manage with stitchless Phaco. For children, cataract removal should be performed as soon as the diagnosis is made with minimum delay.
Q2. What is the best type of Intraocular lens for me?
A2. Foldable lenses (Flexifold, Acrysof, Acrysof IQ) are currently the basic standard of care lenses and can be implanted inside the eye with minimal invasive ‘stitchless’ Phaco surgery. Preloaded foldable lenses (Acrisert) have an added expense but are yet safer and decrease the surgical time. After implantation of such lenses the power for distance vision becomes minimum or nil in most cases while there is a requirement of reading glasses. For those who want to be free of spectacles post surgery more advanced lenses like toric lenses and multifocal/Restor lenses.
